Materials needed:
- 2 to 3 yards of fabric (depending on your size and desired length)
- Matching thread
- Sewing machine
- Fabric scissors
- Measuring tape
- Pins
- Iron
Instructions:
1. Take your measurements: Measure your bust, waist, hips, and desired length of the dress. Add seam allowances to these measurements.
2. Cut out the pattern pieces: Using your measurements, cut out the following pieces from your fabric:
- Front bodice: a rectangle with the width of your bust measurement and the length of your desired dress length, plus seam allowances.
- Back bodice: a rectangle with the width of your bust measurement and the length of your desired dress length, plus seam allowances.
- Front skirt: a rectangle with the width of your waist measurement and the length of your desired dress length, plus seam allowances.
- Back skirt: a rectangle with the width of your waist measurement and the length of your desired dress length, plus seam allowances.
- Waist tie: a long strip of fabric about 4 inches wide and the length of your waist measurement, plus seam allowances.
3. Sew the bodice: Sew the front and back bodice pieces together at the side seams, right sides facing. Press the seams open.
4. Sew the skirt: Sew the front and back skirt pieces together at the side seams, right sides facing. Press the seams open.
5. Attach the bodice to the skirt: With right sides together, pin the bodice to the skirt at the waistline. Sew along the waistline, then press the seam upwards.
6. Attach the waist tie: Fold the waist tie in half lengthwise, right sides facing, and sew along the long edge. Turn the tie right side out and press. Attach the tie to the dress at the waistline, either at the side seams or at the center back.
7. Hem the dress: Fold and press the raw edges of the dress hem, then sew in place.
8. Finish the dress: Give your dress a final press and any necessary finishing touches. Your maxi wrap dress is now ready to wear!
Feel free to customize this pattern to fit your style preferences and measurements. Enjoy sewing your maxi wrap dress!
