Sudbury Basin

The Sudbury Basin, also known as the Sudbury Structure, is a prominent geological feature located in Ontario, Canada. It is one of the largest impact structures on Earth, formed around 1.85 billion years ago by the impact of a massive meteorite. The basin is approximately 250 kilometers in diameter and is filled with a unique type of rock known as Sudbury breccia.

The Sudbury Basin is a major source of nickel, copper, and other valuable minerals, making it one of the most important mining regions in Canada. It is home to several active mines, including the Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, which is one of the largest nickel mining complexes in the world.

In addition to its economic significance, the Sudbury Basin is also of great interest to scientists studying impact craters and the formation of Earth's crust. The basin's unique geology and the presence of ancient rocks make it an important site for research on the history of our planet.
