Materials:
- 2-3 yards of lightweight, flowy fabric (such as cotton, rayon, or silk)
- Matching thread
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Pins
- Measuring tape
Instructions:
1. Take your measurements for the dress. You will need your bust, waist, hip, and desired dress length measurements.
2. Cut out the fabric pieces for the dress. You will need two rectangles for the front and back of the dress, and two smaller rectangles for the sleeves. The width of the rectangles should be equal to your bust measurement plus a few inches for ease, and the length should be equal to your desired dress length.
3. Sew the shoulder seams of the front and back dress pieces together, right sides facing. Press the seams open.
4. With right sides together, sew the side seams of the dress, leaving an opening for the armholes.
5. Hem the bottom of the dress by folding the raw edge under twice and stitching in place.
6. To make the sleeves, fold each sleeve rectangle in half lengthwise and sew the raw edge together. Turn the sleeves right side out.
7. Attach the sleeves to the dress by pinning them to the armholes and sewing in place.
8. Finish the neckline by folding the raw edge under twice and stitching in place.
9. Try on the dress and make any necessary adjustments for fit.
10. Press all seams and hems with an iron to give the dress a polished look.
And there you have it - a simple tent dress that you can wear all summer long! Feel free to customize the pattern by adding pockets, embellishments, or a tie belt at the waist. Have fun sewing!
